Why do I Ride?

Every time I sign up for a new event, my mind keeps coming back to the question – why am I riding? What motivates me to do this?

{Yes, the views are incredible. From towering pines forests to Emerald Bay}

It’s rather hard to put into words what this event means to me. Biking around 100 miles around Lake Tahoe is one thing. But fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. That’s big. That makes a difference. That helps others.

I signed up for my first ride last year, high off emotion from hearing a survivor tell her inspirational story.

And here I am, a year later. A tad bit wiser. A new strategy for training. And some new fundraising ideas.

But I want you to understand why I do this. And why I will probably continue to do this. And I want you to consider taking a part in a life changing event with Team in Training.

The funds I raise as part as TNT go directly to the Society. And did you know that LLS is one of the few remaining charities that give back to the patients? I want you to consider donating towards my campaign. http://pages.teamintraining.org/ks/ambbr13/tenaciousturtle

As an idea of what your donation is supporting…

· $25 pays for a patient’s chemotherapy prescription co-pay.
· $50 will register one person to become a bone marrow donor.
· $75 provides bone marrow typing for a potential donor.
· $100 provides patient travel costs to the cancer center.
· $300 will train peer volunteers who can provide emotional & practical support to newly diagnosed patients through the First Connection Program.
· $500 provides aid to a 5 patients for ONE YEAR.
· $1000 will help the LLS fund a researcher to find a cure.

What I can’t capture in words…this video captures in story. The story of Ms. Eva Hooten, the 2011 Honored Girl of the Year. Grab some tissues and think about the difference you could make is others’ lives.

It’s a beautiful thing to make a difference.

In 5 short months, my life is going to change…again.
My legs will ache. My shins will burn. My hands will tingle. My shoulders will tense. My heart will pound. The tears will flow.
With that description, it doesn’t sound like a pleasant experience at all. But actually – it’s one of the best experiences of my life!!
On June 2nd, I will be biking 100 miles around Lake Tahoe, CA as part of Team in Training to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I hope you will consider sponsoring me.

This year will be my second attempt to complete America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride with Team in Training, and I’m already looking forward to the range of emotions I will feel in the next 5 months.
The season typically starts out in March with me feeling anxious, nervous, and thinking – can I really do this?
By April I’m feeling more calm, but not overly excited yet.
By May I am all out wanting June to be here.
And the day before the ride I feel on top of the world. At least …that’s how last year went.
This year I have a new confidence about me, as I know I can do this.
For it is written in the Bible, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
So my goals are much like last year’s – finish the ride and not walk up a hill….or crash and total the bike I was riding (as I did last year).
In addition to training for Tahoe, I am mainly doing this event to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Setting a lofty goal of $5,500. I’m asking you to help by making a donation to my fundraising campaign.
During the time I did spend on the course last year, I passed and was passed by other cancer fighters and survivors, and heard of so many honored patients we were riding for.
Thinking back I still get goosebumps and choked up.
I want to encourage you to watch this video because it reminds me why I am doing why I am doing this: http://youtu.be/bLDn5xBfaeo
While I’m still in the anxious mode, staying positive and optimistic will get me to June!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team in Training and help LLS find a cure.
I can't do it without you! If everyone gave $10, I would surely reach my goal!
Thank you for your generosity and may you be blessed tenfold!

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.
Thanks for your support!
